Charging Efficiency Loss Factor ($\text{Loss Factor} = 0.12$): All electric vehicle charging incurs an energy loss of roughly 10% to 15% due to AC-to-DC conversion in the onboard charger, battery internal impedance heat dissipation, and battery thermal cooling fans. EcoCalc includes an industry-standard 12% buffer so metered kilowatt-hours reflect real electric bills.
Home Level 2 charging relies on your local residential tariff (1.0x). Public DC fast chargers (Tesla Supercharger, Electrify America, EVgo) incur commercial demand charges and infrastructure surcharges, modeled at a 1.8x multiplier. For the "Mixed 80/20" profile, the formula applies 80% home rate + 20% public fast rate.
